Obtain Permanent License :

Where to approach :
Approach your nearest Suwidha Centre or Licensing Authority (DTO or Sub Divisional Magistrate).

Eligibility :
Valid Learner’s License, where Learner License is issued 30 days before the application date.

Physical Presence :
It is mandatory to present yourself in front of Licencing Authority to obtain the Permanent License

Documents Required :
** Fee of Rs. 50/- for each category of Vehicle applied.
** Fee of Rs. 200/- for Smart Card

** Application in Form 4
** Certificate of competence to drive vehicle
** For transport vehicle classes, Certificate Issued by Driving Training School

Effectiveness and Validity :
** Permanent license issued is valid throughout India.
** Permanent license is issued for 20 years or upto 50 years of age whichever is earlier.
** Permanent license issued for transport vehicle will be valid for three years

Here are the guidelines for checking the age criterion while issuance of Learner License :
** Age greater than 16 years but are less than 18 years are eligible for a license to drive only a motor cycle upto 50cc engine capacity i.e. motor cycle without gear.
** Age greater than 18 years are eligible to obtain license for a motor cycle equipped with gears and also for a Light Motor Vehicle [Motor Car].

Principals will collect the fees required to obtain Learner License which is as following :
** Rs. 30/- multiplied by the number of class of vehicle applied
** Collected Fees amount has to be deposited in Transport Department account on a daily basis by any of following medium

** Challan submission at Bank in the account of 0041 head.
** By use of Internet Banking facility provided by State Bank of India. To collect the fees by internet banking, please contact your respective DTO

Principals will also collect User Charges for Transport Department.The amount of the user charges will be as following :
** Rs 80 /- will be as collected as the user charges from students
** Distribution of the collected user charges of Rs 80 /- is as following
** Rs. 20 /- will be deposited to respective DTO

** Rs. 60 /- will be used by Principals to make the provision to conduct Medical test and to facilitate students by providing educational material etc.
** Collected user charges will be deposited to the respective DTO on the weekly basis

Transport Department functions under the provisions of section 213 of Motor Vehicles Act,1988.

The Transport Department is primarily established for enforcement of the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act,1988, Punjab Motor Vehicles Taxation Act,1924(Amended 1993)and the rules framed under these two Acts.

The Transport Department is headed by the State Transport Commissioner. He is assisted by two Additional State Transport Commissioner, One Joint State Transport Commissioner, Deputy Controller (F&A), Deputy State Transport Commissioner, Punjab, Service Engineer, Automobile Engineer, Assistant Transport Commissioner (Tech) in the Head Office
