Gun Gaurav Samman Samaroh :

** The second edition of Gun Gaurav Samman Samaroh was held today in the capital where the Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development Shri Prakash Javadekar felicitated students of class XII from Delhi hailing from economically weakest of the weaker sections.

The felicitation ceremony held today, was an acknowledgement of the consistent effort and merit of the students, by virtue of which, all these students scored high marks in their class XII annual examination conducted by CBSE this year.

** These meritorious students belong to the diverse, socially and economically marginalised strata and have studied in CBSE affiliated government schools, Kendriya vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (rural residential schools).

The students shared their unique stories of hardships and success. Some of these students come from homes where the annual income of the parents is even less than 1.5 Lakh per annum.

** There were a total of 86 students including boys and girls. 45 students were from Government and Government aided schools, 31 from Kendriya Vidyalayas who scored 95% and above.

10 students scoring 88% and above were from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. These students have been identified on the basis of the performance range and income criteria as recommended by the internal committee of CBSE.

** The Gun Gaurav programme was held in the gracious presence of the Hon’ble Minister of State for HRD (Higher Education) Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Smt. Rina Ray, Additional Secretary (School Education and Literacy), Sh. Maneesh Garg, Joint Secretary, (School Education and Literacy), Sh. R. K. Chaturvedi, Chairman CBSE and other senior officers from MHRD, KVS, JNV and CBSE.

** The programme also signified the effort of the government to bring the meritorious students to the main stream and provide encouragement to the poorest of the poor.

During interactions with the students, the Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development Shri Prakash Javadekar appreciated the extra ordinary effort put in by each one of them and saluted their grit and determination.

Education empowers an individual and gives courage to realize dreams. Education is inspirational as these students have shown with their excellent performance despite odd circumstances and inadequacies in life.

Giving example of the students from KVS and JNV the minister highlighted the fact that the Government school students can also excel and it is a gross misunderstanding that only expensive education breeds quality. The minister urged the society to encourage such students to come to the mainstream.

** The Hon’ble Minister of State for Human Resource Development Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey congratulated the Hon’ble Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar for this initiative of honoring talent which should be taken as an inspiration by other state also.

** Shri R. K. Chaturvedi, Chairman CBSE, highlighted the importance of education in life. Narrating real life instances from the lives of great Indian personalities. He encouraged the students to remained focused and pursue their ambitions
