Features of Goods and Services Tax

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a comprehensive indirect tax levied on supply of goods and services in India. It is a destination-based tax, which means that the tax is levied where the goods or services are consumed, and not where they are produced or supplied. GST has several features that make it a unique and beneficial tax system.

Some of the key features of GST are:
** One Nation, One Tax: GST is a pan-India tax, which means that it is levied across all states and union territories in India. This eliminates the need for businesses to comply with multiple tax laws and regulations, and it also makes it easier for businesses to trade across state borders.
** Multiple Tax Rates: GST has a four-tier tax structure with rates of 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. This allows the government to tax goods and services at different rates, depending on their essentiality and luxury.
** Input Tax Credit: GST allows businesses to claim input tax credit (ITC) on the taxes they pay on their inputs. This means that businesses can offset the taxes they pay on their inputs against the taxes they collect on their outputs. This helps to reduce the overall tax burden on businesses and encourages them to invest and grow.
** E-Invoicing: GST requires businesses to issue electronic invoices for all their supplies. This helps to improve compliance and reduce tax evasion.
** Online Registration and Compliance: GST allows businesses to register and comply with the tax laws online. This makes it easier for businesses to comply with the tax laws and it also helps to reduce the cost of compliance.
