International Professional Engineers Certification :
** To know how to become a ‘Professional Engineer / International Professional Engineer’ with IEI Engineers whose qualification is BE / BTech or equivalent, recognized by the Statutory Authority or Government of India and who are having 7 years or more experience, out of which professional experience of 2 years in a responsible position of a significant engineering activity, having membership of a recognized professional society and having maintained continuous professional development at satisfactory level, can submit application in the prescribed format to the Secretary, Board for Certification. The Institution of Engineers (India), 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata 700 020.
** The Guidelines and the Application Form for PE / IntPE can be freely downloaded.
** The assessment of application including the Assessment Examination is conducted by the national committees of different engineering disciplines formed by Professional Institutions in the country under supervision and directions of the independent ‘Board for Certification’.
** It is mandatory for Professional Engineers / IntPE Engineers to abide by the Code of Ethics as formulated.
Guidelines for Applicants :
A professional engineer (P. Eng) by definition is one whose academic qualification & experience will be in conformity with the internationally mutually acceptable standards. After evaluation of competency by the National Committee of the relevant engineering discipline, the applicant engineer is certified as a “Professional Engineer” by a Board for Certification of Professional Engineers (BFC).
Grouping of Engineering Disciplines
Engineering disciplines include in which bachelors degree or equivalent is awarded. The engineering disciplines in which Certification of Professional Engineer as well as International Professional Engineer (India) are undertaken at present are as follows
** Civil Engineering
** Electrical Engineering
** Chemical Engineering
** Mining Engineering
** Mechanical Engineering
** Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering
** Textile Engineering
Qualification for Certification as Professional Engineer :
** Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent recognised by Statutory Authority or Government of India;
** Experience of 7 years in engineering practice;
** Professional experience of 2 years in a responsible position of significant engineering activity;
** Persons of good character;
** Membership of recognised professional engineering institution /association;
** Passed the Assessment Examination as prescribed;
** Maintained continued professional development since graduation at a satisfactory level;
** Undertakes to adhere to the Code of Ethics;
** Makes a formal application with prescribed fee.
