About Bhadra Tiger Reserve:
Bhadra Tiger Reserve takes its name from the Bhadra river, its lifeline. Earlier, it was known as Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary, after the village on its periphery. The Reserve is a haven for 40 species of mammals, about 250 species of birds, more than 20 species of reptiles, 10 species of amphibians, 50 species of butterflies and 10 species of fish, many of which are endemic to the Western Ghats.
The visitors could go for safaris in Lakkavali, in the Northern, and Muthodi, in the Southern part of the Reserve. The Reserve is also home to the Jagara Giant, the largest Teak tree in the state with a girth of 5.1 m and a height of 32 m, which is said to be around 400 years old. Bhadra Tiger Reserve spans about 500 square km, spread across two districts Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts.
