to address the maternal and child under nutrition in five districts – Mewat, Fatehabad, Narnaul, Palwal and Kaithal and Haryana Kanya Kosh for the welfare and development of girl child and women in the State. The Chief Minister was addressing a State Level Function on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Panchkula today. On this occasion, he also honoured women achievers for their exceptional achievements in different fields. Earlier, he flagged off three vans as part of Video Van Campaign to Educate on child rights in the State.

Mr Manohar who himself contributed Rs 1 lakh to the Haryana Kanya Kosh said that efforts would be made to increase the amount of this Kosh to Rs 100 crore. He also announced to give Rs 51 lakh to this Kosh from his discretionary fund. He said that a special budget provision would be made for this scheme which aims to generate an environment in which the girls are provided with equal opportunities. Apart from government, anybody could contribute in this Kosh for the welfare of girls, he added.

He also announced to increase the amount of Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award from Rs one lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh, Behan Shanno Devi Award from Rs 51,000 to Rs one lakh, Life Time Achievement Award from Rs 21,000 to Rs 51,000 and other women achiever award from Rs 5100 to Rs 21,000.

He launched the scheme Aapki Beti Humari Beti’ by giving away cheque of Rs 21,000 each to mother of six female child born on or after January 22, 2015 namely Aradhana, Khushi, Anishka, Khushi, Pehu and Yashpreet Kaur. The scheme ‘Aapki Beti Humari Beti’ will be implemented in both rural and urban areas of the State, covering first born girl child of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and all second girl child born on or after January 22, 2015 of all families. Under this scheme, the first girl child born or after January 22, 2015, in SC and BPL families will be eligible to receive Rs 21,000. Similarly, all second girl child born on or after January 22, 2015 of all families will get Rs 21,000.

In special cases when twin girls born or after January 22, 2015, the girls will be entitled to benefit at the rate of Rs 21,000 per girl child. In case of multiple girls birth on or after January 22, 2015, the girls will be entitled to benefit at the rate of Rs 21,000 each. Apart from this, the Life Insurance Corporation of India will issue a Membership Certificate in favour of each beneficiary enrolled with them. The said membership certificate will be given to the concerned District Programme Officer for onward delivery to the parents of the concerned beneficiary.

While congratulating the award winners and women of the State on International Women Day, the Chief Minister said that from the ancient times women has played a vital role in the building a strong nation . The contribution made by them especially during the freedom struggle would be written in golden letters. Today women have made their special identity in almost all fields be it sports, employment, politics etc. He said that girls education is necessary keeping in view of the fact that it illuminates three houses in her life.

Referring to the women of State, he said that women of Haryana are making outstanding contribution in different fields thereby playing an active role in the development of State and the society. He quoted the examples of Kapana Chawla in aeronautics science, Dr Sheena Agarwaa in Indian Administrative Services, Krishna Punia in sports, Mamta Sauda in mountaineering. Apart from this, the contribution of social reformists like Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekanand and Swami Dayanad Sarswati in providing a respectable place to the women in the world could not be forgotten. He reminding the Chicago Conference, where Swami Vivekanand in his inaugural address, addressed those present there as brother and Sisters instead of ladies and gentlemen.

Expressing concern over the declining sex ratio, the Chief Minister said that it was a matter of pride for Haryana that Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has launched the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) Programme from Panipat. Apart from this, he also launched Sukanya Samridhi Yojana to ensure a secure future for the girl. Under the Sukanya Samridhi Yojana, account could be opened at any time from the birth of a girl child till she attains the age of 10 years with a minimum deposit of 1000 rupees. He said that under the BBBP Programme, 12 districts have been identified in Haryana having low sex ratio.

Speaking on this occasion, Women and Child Development Minister Mrs Kavita Jain said that women play a vital role in the overall development of the society. She said that the development of any society or State could be gauged from the condition of its women. She said that the International Women Day is dedicated towards women empowerment, analyzing their present condition and ensuring their socio-economic upliftment. She said that though today women have touched new heights but such women are few in numbers. She said that the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has on January 22, launched BBBP Programme so as to ensure their protection, provide ample opportunities of education and employment. On this occasion, she contributed a sum of Rs 5 lakh to the Kanya Kosh from here discretionary fund.

Earlier, the Chief Minister honoured the women achievers for their outstanding contribution in different fields. While Sandhya Aggarwal of Sirsa was honoured with Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award carrying a cash prize of Rs one lakh, Kanta Devi of village Kureli, Hisar was honoured with Kalpana Chawla Shaurya Award of Rs 50,000.

Nine women were honoured for their outstanding performance in sports which includes Ritu Rani, Rani Rampal and Navjot Kaur of Shahbad, Gitika Jakhar, Krishna Punia of Hisar, Seema Punia of Rohtak, Anisha Sayed of Faridabad and Sakshi Malik of Rohtak.

In Sakshar Mahila Samooh (SMS) activities Ritu Rana Pardhan of village Staundhi district Karnal, Amarjit Kaur of district Hisar, Geeta Devi of district Palwal and Surinder Kaur of district Ambala were also honoured . Similarly, among government employees, Sub Inspector Kiran, in-charge of Police Post Sector-11 and 12 Panipat and Assistant Sub Inspector Neelam Devi of Mahendergarh Police Station were awarded. For outstanding contribution in social work, Rekha, Dr Vinay Khurania, Anju Bala, Anita Sharma, Prem Sharma, Poonam were honoured.

For outstanding work at Anganwadis, Anganwadi workers Durga, Saroj and Usha were awarded and Prohibition-cum-Protection Officer Karminder Kaur was also awarded for her outstanding work in the field. They were honoured with a cash prize of Rs 5100 each.
