Child Adoption Resource Information

Who can Adopt
As per Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2000 as amended from time to time , the court may allow a child to be given in adoption –

** to a person irrespective of marital status; or
** to parents to adopt a child of the same sex irrespective of the number of living biological sons or daughters, or to a childless couple

Additional Eligibility Criteria

** No child may be given in adoption to a couple unless they have at least two years of stable marital relationship
** Couples in live-in relationship are not eligible to adopt a child
** To adopt a child in the age group of 0-3 years, the maximum composite age of the PAPs should be 90 years wherein the individual age of the PAPs should not be less than 25 years and more than 50 years
** To adopt children above three years of age, the maximum composite age of the PAPs should be 105 years wherein the individual age of the PAPs should not be less than 25 years and more than 55 years
** In case, a single PAP desires to adopt, he or she should not be less than 30 years of age and shall not be above the age of 50 years.
** The PAPs should have adequate financial resources to provide a good upbringing to the child. The PAPs should have good health and should not be suffering from any contagious or terminal disease or any such mental or physical condition, which may prevent them from taking care of the child

Kindly read these instructions carefully before registering online :
** This registration is meant for Indian citizens residing in India .
** Please give your correct residential address and telephone no. with area code.
** You or your spouse must have a Permanent Account Number (PAN) card and you have to upload PAN card in portable document format (.pdf) – size should not exceed 512 KB.
** In case of single parent you need to upload only your photograph & in case of Couple/Family you need to upload entire family photograph.
** * Photograph should be in .jpg format (3.5 x 4.5 cm)

About Us :
Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) is a statutory body of Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India. It functions as the nodal body for adoption of Indian children and is mandated to monitor and regulate in-country and inter-country adoptions.

CARA is designated as the Central Authority to deal with inter-country adoptions in accordance with the provisions of the Hague Convention on Inter-country Adoption, 1993, ratified by Government of India in 2003. CARA primarily deals with adoption of orphan, abandoned and surrendered children through its associated /recognised adoption agencies.

Services Offered By CARA

Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. It is mandated to monitor and regulate in-country and inter-country adoptions. CARA primarily deals with adoption of orphan, abandoned and surrendered children through its associated /recognised adoption agencies.

Here are some of the services offered by CARA:
** Registration of prospective adoptive parents: Prospective adoptive parents (PAPs) can register with CARA through a recognised adoption agency. The registration process includes a home study, which is a comprehensive assessment of the PAPs’ suitability for adoption.
** Matching of PAPs with children: Once PAPs are registered, they are matched with children who are available for adoption. The matching process is based on the PAPs’ preferences and the needs of the children.
** Adoption counselling: CARA provides adoption counselling to PAPs and children. The counselling helps PAPs to understand the adoption process and to prepare for the challenges of parenting a child who has been adopted.
** Post-adoption support: CARA provides post-adoption support to PAPs and children. The support includes counselling, financial assistance, and access to services such as healthcare and education.

    1. Can single parent adopt a child?
      Yes, a single parent is eligible for adopting the child, as per para 5 of the Governing Adoption of Children- 2015. Female single parent can adopt a boy or girl child whereas male single parent can only adopt male child.
