Karnataka Mahila Abhivrudhi Yojane :

The KMAY Cell was started in the Directorate from 3-5-2003 with a view to monitor the scheme for inter-sectoral allocation of funds for women namely Karnataka Mahila Abhivrudhi Yojane to ensure gender equality and to integrate women in the mainstream of development.

It is a land mark policy decision of the Karnataka Government as it was for the first time a conscious and positive attempt was made by Government to address gender issues. The strategy of the scheme is to earmark one third of resources for women in individual beneficiary oriented schemes and labour intensive schemes of various departments of Government.

During the year 2013-14, 25 departments have identified 301 schemes. Out of total outlay of Rs.11334.27 crores, the 1/3rd allocation for Karnataka Mahila Abhivrudhi Yojane is Rs.4591.50 crores. An expenditure of Rs.4777.40 crore is incurred up to end of March 2014.

During the year 2014-15, 25 department have identified 281 schemes. Out of total outlay of Rs.20960.50. crores, the 1/3rd allocation for KMAY is Rs.7168.38 crores. An expenditure of Rs.7686.19 crores is incurred upto the end of March 2015.

Stree Shakthi :
The programme was launched during 2000-01 and it is being implemented throughout the state to empower rural women and make them self reliant. Stree Shakthi Groups are formed at the village level to inculcate the savings habit in the members empowering the women economically.

About 15 to 20 women members who are from below poverty line families, landless agricultural labourers, SC/ST women join together. Stree Shakthi Groups are formed through Anaganwadi workers and taluk federations.

SWADHAR – A scheme for women in difficult circumstances :
This is a Central sector scheme for providing holistic and integrated services to women in difficult circumstances such as destitute widows, women prisoners released from jail and without family support, women survivors of natural disasters; trafficked women/girls rescued from brothels or other places or victims of sexual crime, mentally challenged women who are without any support etc.

Hostel for girls :
Hostel for girls have been started in the backward areas of the State with an objective to enable girls from rural areas to pursue higher education and reduce shool drop out of girls.

Admissions to the hostels are available for students residing in rural areas, whose family income is less than Rs.10,000 p.a. and are studying in 6th Std. and above up to post-matric courses.
