National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.

It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes.

The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.

Aims & Objective of NSS are:
i. To understand the community in which they work;
ii. To understand themselves in relation to their community;
iii. To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
iv. To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility;
v. To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problem;
vi. To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities:
vii. To gain skills in mobilizing community participation;
viii. To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude;

Who Can Join?

The National Service Scheme starts from 11th standard onwards.

How To Join in NSS?

Simply by enrolling/registering yourself in NSS unit through the Programme Officer concerned However, before joining you must be a bona fide student of school, college or university.

You can get some weightage during admissions in higher studies and other benefits as decided by the institutions/university.

If I complete only 120 hrs social service in NSS, will I get any Certificate?
You will get only certificate for completing one year social service under the aegis of NSS by your institution.

Is it compulsory to attend 7 days NSS Special Camp?
Yes, it is compulsory, to attend seven days NSS special camp beside regular activities (one camp in 2 year of volunteership).
