How To Apply For Driving License In Assam?
The applicant who has held a valid learner’s licence for a period of at least 30 days or within 180 days from the date of issuance of learner’s licence can apply for the permanent driving licence
The Assam Driving License Application forms given below in Schedule I II III IV V should be downloaded and submitted. The application should be accompanied by the prescribed documents.

Documents Required For Assam Driving License
following documents are required to apply for Driving License in Assam
** Your valid learner’s licence
** Three copies of recent passport size photo
** Proof of age and residence
** In case of Transport Vehicle certificate in Form given in Form 5 issued by a driving training school/establishment
** In case of endorsements of categories your original licence
** Police verification
Process Flow:
After the scrutiny of your documents you have to appear a test of competence to drive a vehicle as per the procedures laid down under Rule – 15 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. For this driving test you have to bring your vehicle along with you to the District Transport Office and here the M.V.I.’s will test your driving skills, knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and familiarization with the vehicle. The candidate who passes the test of competence successfully will be issued with a driving licence.
Timeline For Driving License
Generally a Driving licence is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or till you turn 50 years of age which ever is earlier. But the driving licence issued for Transport Vehicle will be valid for 3 (three) years.
How To Renew Driving Licence in Assam?
Renewal of your licence has to be applied within 30 days of expiry of your Assam permanent driving licence to avoid any penalty.
The following documents are required for renewal of a driving licence:
** Application in Schedule III
** Rs. 100.00 for fees and penalty if any as prescribed in Rule – 32
** 2 copies of recent passport size photograph
** Proof of age and residence
** Medical Certificate in Schedule II
** In case of Commercial / Transport, H.M. Vehicle a driver refreshing Training Certificate.
How To Apply For Duplicate Licence?
In case of destruction or loss of the original driving licence a duplicate licence can be obtained. The application for the duplicate licence has to be made to the District Transport Officer who had issued the original licence.
The following documents are required for issuing a duplicate licence:
** Application Form in Schedule III
** FIR of Police report of the lost licence
** Original licence in case of torn, destruction or defaced
** Fees of Rs. 20.00
Additions to Driving Licence:
If you are a holder of a valid driving licence for Motor Cycle/Scooter you may apply for an addition of light Motor Vehicle (LMV). For a addition of another class of vehicle you have to apply to the District Transport Office where you resides with the following documents:
** Your valid driving licence
** Valid learner’s licence for the category
** Application Form in Schedule IV
** In case of an application for addition of a transport vehicle the driving certificate in Form – 5
** Medical Certificate Form in Schedule II in case of Transport Vehicles
