What is Driving License?

To Drive Non-Transport vehicle, Two Wheeler and LMV, the applicant has to appear for test of competence to drive (Driving skill Test) by individually or through recognised Driving Schools before the Motor Vehicle Inspector. The data already entered and document uploaded for LLR can be used for getting DL in Portal, but a fee has to be paid by online itself.

Driving licence will be issued for 20 years from the date of issue or up to 40 years of age whichever is earlier for A non-transport vehicles and in case of transport vehicle it will be valid for three (3) years from the date of issue.

The Motor vehicles Inspector will conduct the test of competence to drive vehicle as per the procedures laid down under the rule 15 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules,1989. After satisfaction about the driving skills, the testing authority will pass the order for issue of driving licence.

Once applicant clears driving test, Driving License will be issued by the Asst. Licensing Authority after capturing of bio-metrics including Photograph. If applicant failed in driving test, they can appear again for re-test after 7 days. If the applicant does not pass even after three driving tests, he shall not be qualified to reappear for such test before 60 days.

How to Apply for Driving License in Tamil Nadu?

Apply application in new driving license services in Parivahan Website. An application in Form 2, for a permanent driving license shall be made along with the Learners’ License obtained for such class of vehicle. The applicant who has a valid Learners’ License, for a period of at least 30 days, shall be competent to appear for the test of competence or driving skill test.

The applicant should bring a vehicle of the type to which the application relates. The applicant should satisfy the officer conducting the test regarding his capability to drive the vehicle and his ability to perform the tasks specified in Rule-15(2) of the CMVR. The candidate who passes the test of competence successfully will be issued with a driving license.

Documents Required For Tamil Nadu Driving License

Following documents are required to apply for Driving License in Tamil Nadu
** Application in Form-2 generated through online.
** Valid Learner Licence.
** Documents of vehicle in which applicant proposes to appear for test of competence to drive (such as valid Registration Certificate, Insurance Certificate, Tax Card, Pollution under Control Certificate).
** Form 5 and Form 15 (only for those who have undergone training in a Driving School).

How do I get a Heavy vehicle license for Driving Commercial vehicles ?
** Should have completed 20 years of age for apply for driving Transport Vehicles or Heavy vehicle with 1year experience in LMV. Should have obtained Badge or endorsement for driving commercial vehicle.
