1. Where should I learn the driving from?
The driving training should be imparted by a person who possesses a permanent driving licence. If you are interested in getting yourself trained from a Motor Driving School, a list of Motor Driving Schools approved by the government could be referred to.

2.Are there any age restricions for obtaining learner’s license?
** The applicant shall have attaining the age of 16 years in case of motor cycle with engine capacity not exceeding 50 cc (motor cycle without gear).
** The consent/declaration of the parents/guardian is necessary and shall be signed before the Licencing authority.
** The applicant shall have completed the age of 18 years in case of motor cycle with gear or light motor vehicle.
** In case of transport vehicles one year driving experience of light motor vehicle.
** Medical certificate in Form CMV 1 and 1A is necessary in case of transport vehicle.

3.Is it compulsory to have a medical certificate for obtaining a learner’s licence?
An applicant for the grant of a non transport vehicle driving license under the age of 40 years do not require a medical certificate. However, those applicants who are over 40 year of age must produce a medical certificate in Form – 1A. All applicants for the grant of driving license to drive transport vehicle are required to produce a medical certificate.

4. What is the period of validity of Learner’s license?
Learner’s licence is valid for the period of 6 Months.

5. What is the Subject in the Learning License Test?
** Traffic signs, traffic signals and rules of the road regulations made under section 118 of Motor Vehicles Act.
** Duties of driver when his vehicle is involved in an accident resulting in death or bodily injury of a person or damage to property of a third party.
** Precautions to be taken while passing un-manned railway crossing.
** The Documents he should carry with him while driving a vehicle.

6. What if FAILED in the Learning License Test?
Application along with documents will be returned to the failed applicant and he can reappear for test on the next day onwards.

7. Why do you need a Driving License?
As per Motor Vehicle Act 1988, a valid Driving Licence is necessary to drive any motor vehicle on public roads.

8. How long is the Driving License valid?
Licence to drive a Non-Transport Vehicle is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or until the holder attains the age of 50 years, whichever is earlier. After that, the Licence is renewed every 5 years. Transport Vehicle Licence is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue or renewal.

9. Why does my record need to be verified in case of Commercial licence renewal?
The record of the licence which is to be renewed has to be thoroughly verified in order to ensure the authenticity. The record is also checked to see if the Driving licence was earlier issued from any other zonal office. In case the record is not traceable but the M.L.O. feels that the licence is genuine, he may refer for a re-test.

10. What is the penalty in case of a delay in getting the licence renewed?
Rs.1000/ after the first 30 days of expiry- irrespective of delay but before 5 yrs of its expiry.
