What is Legacy Deed in West Bengal?

A Legacy Deed in West Bengal refers to a property deed that was registered before the computerization of land records in the state. These deeds are not digitally stored and exist as physical documents.

Here’s a breakdown of Legacy Deeds:
Registration:
They were registered with the Directorate of Registration and Stamp Revenue (DRSR) of West Bengal.

Format:
Legacy deeds exist as physical documents, unlike their modern counterparts which are electronic.

Online Access:
The DRSW website (https://wbregistration.gov.in/) offers limited online access to some legacy deed details. You can search for them by:
** Party Names (Buyer/Seller)
** Property details (in some cases)
** Deed and Query Number (if you have them)

Note:
You can also request corrections to the scanned images or metadata of your legacy deed through the website.

Additional Simplified Procedure

There are two ways to view legacy deed details online in West Bengal, depending on the information you have:

1. Search by Deed Number and Book Details (if you have them):
The West Bengal Directorate of Registration and Stamp Revenue (DRSR) website allows viewing the draft of a legacy deed if you have the following details:

** District: Where the deed was registered
** Registration Office: Within the chosen district
** Deed Number
** Book Number

Here’s the process:
** Visit the DRSR website: https://wbregistration.gov.in/
** Under the “Citizen Services” menu, look for “Legacy Deed Draft View” (or you can search for it directly on the website).
** This will take you to a page where you can enter the required details mentioned above.
** Once you fill in all the information, click “View Deed”.

2. Search by Party Names (if you don’t have deed details):
The DRSR website also provides a limited search by party names for legacy deeds. However, this search might not be as precise and may return multiple results.

Here’s what you need to do:
** Go to the DRSR website: https://wbregistration.gov.in/
** Under “Citizen Services”, look for “View of Legacy-Deed Details : By Seller/Buyer/Party Name”.
** On this page, you can enter the last name of the party involved and the district where the deed was registered (if known).
** Fill in the security code and click “Search”.
