What is Bihar Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme?

The Bihar government has launched the ‘Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme’ to promote women’s employment towards women empowerment. The main objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to one woman from each family of the state to start employment of her choice. The implementation process of this scheme has been started by the Rural Development Department, Government of Bihar through Bihar Rural Livelihood Promotion Committee (Jeevika).

Benefits of Bihar Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme

Under the scheme, an amount of ₹ 10 thousand will be given as the first installment as financial assistance to one woman from each family to pursue employment of her choice. After the women start employment, additional financial assistance up to ₹ 2 lakh will be provided as per requirement after assessment. This initiative of the Bihar government will not only empower women but will also boost the economy of the state.

Eligibility of Bihar Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme

Under the scheme, “family” means husband, wife, and their unmarried children. Unmarried adult women whose parents are not alive will be considered a nuclear family for the purposes of the scheme and will be provided benefits as per the rules. All members (one woman from one family) associated with self-help groups in urban areas will be eligible for the benefits of this scheme.

Before adding women who are not currently members of Self Help Groups in urban areas as members, the following has to be ensured keeping in mind the definition of family under the scheme:
a. The age of the applicant should be 18-60 years.
b. The applicant herself or her husband should not be in the category of income tax payer.
c. The applicant herself or her husband should not be in Government service (regular/contract).

How To Apply For Bihar Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme?

Application Process For Women From Urban Areas:
** For women from urban areas to apply, a link will be available on Jeevika’s website .
** Women interested in taking advantage of the scheme must enter their mobile number, Aadhaar number, bank account details, and business type upon registration.
** Applicants must also upload scanned copies of their Aadhaar card, bank passbook (which includes their name, account number, and IFSC code), photograph, and signature on a plain paper.
** To avail the benefits of the scheme, it is mandatory for interested women to join the self-help group.
** After receiving their online application, they will be contacted by a community resource worker working in their area to add them to the group.
** Only after joining the group will they be provided the benefits of the scheme.
** Women from urban areas who are already associated with self-help groups are not required to apply online.
** For women from urban areas who are not associated with self-help groups, a link is available on the Jeevika website for applying.
** Physical verification of all received applications will be done and it will also be ensured that the woman is a resident of Bihar state.
** In order to avail the benefits of the scheme, it will be necessary to undergo training.
** Further documents may be asked for as per requirement.

Application Process For Women From Rural Areas:
All members of a Jeevika Self-Help Group will be eligible for this scheme. They will apply to their village organization to avail the benefits. A special meeting of all group members will be held at the village organization level, where applications from all members of a group will be collected on a consolidated form.

Those women who are not associated with Jeevika Self Help Group, to avail the benefits of the scheme, will first have to submit their application in the prescribed form to the concerned village organization to join the Self Help Group.
