What is Self-Enumeration?

Self-Enumeration is a process where respondents fill out, complete, and submit the census schedule themselves, rather than having it done by a census enumerator. The Self-Enumeration Portal is an official online platform by the Office of Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India that allows residents to fill out their detailed information for Census 2027 from the comfort of their homes.

How To Register For Census at Self-Enumeration Portal?

Self-Enumeration (SE) Portal for Houselisting Operations (HLO) Phase of Census 2027. Through this portal you may provide information for HLO pertaining to your Household. It will take around 15-20 minutes to complete the process.

The self-enumeration facility, which allows citizens to securely fill in their details online, will remain active for 15 days from tomorrow, July 17, to July 31, 2026. All households in Tamil Nadu are encouraged to securely complete their self-enumeration by visiting the official portal: https://se.census.gov.in/. As the submitted information will directly integrate into the official national database, the public is requested to ensure the utmost accuracy of the details provided.

Upon successful completion of the self-enumeration process, a unique identification number will be generated. Citizens must present this ID to the enumerators when they visit their homes. Households that do not opt for self-enumeration will be covered during the regular physical enumeration phase scheduled from August 1 to August 30, 2026.

After confirmation and submission, you will be provided a Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) through SMS and email (if provided). When the Census Enumerator visits your House, please share this SE ID with her/him to facilitate completion of the HLO for your household.

Select your State/UT name in the Self-Enumeration Portal with Captcha verification and then write the name of the head of household, mobile number and email (optional). An OTP will be sent to the mobile and email (if provided) for verification. Select the language for doing SE and enter the OTP to begin self-enumeration.
