Marriage Assistance to Differently Abled Women :

Description :
As per G.O.(MS) 126/2006/SWD, dated: 16/3/2006 and G.O.(MS) 216/2007/SWD, dated: 30-03-2007 has sanctioned a scheme for giving an amount of Rs.10,000/- as the Marriage Assistance to physically handicapped girls and the daughters of physically handicapped parents. A total amount of Rs.50,90,000/- was utilized for 509 beneficiaries.

Benefeciaries :
Differently abled women and also to the differently abled parents for the marriage of their daughters

Benefits :
A one – time assistance of Rs. 10, 000/- is provided to the benefeciaries

How to avail :
The application forms are to be obtained from District Social Justice Offices and to submit to the same office with required documents

Educational Assistance to Children of Women Headed Families:
Scheme Type : State Government
Funding Pattern: State Government

Description :
The number of women headed families in Kerala is very high. Majority of these families are living in deplorable conditions. The scheme proposes to extend a helping hand to these families by way of providing financial assistance to the education of children. This is a one-time assistance.

Beneficiaries : Children of Women Headed Families

Benefits :
Assistance of Rs. 250/- from SSLC to Plus two and Rs. 500/- for Degree and above

Eligibility Criteria :
1) BPL Family – (HIV/AIDS affected persons, socially discriminated persons, war widows etc are eligible irrespective of their BPL status)

2) Only two children of a family are eligible

3) The child who avail any other scholarship is not eligible for the assistance. A certificate to this has to be obtained from the head of educational institution where the child studies

How to Avail :
The applications are collected by Child Development Project Officers through Anganwadi Workers and will be forwarded to the District Social Justice Offices

Women’s well-being depends on their empowerment social, cultural, political and economical. The Government of Kerala has adopted various strategies to enhance the status of women and empower them to address the negative social and economic impacts.

Because women empowerment will lead to an improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the society in a number of ways.

The women empowerment programmes of the Department of Social Justice cover welfare and support services, training for employment and income generation, awareness generation and gender sensitization.

Differently Abled :

Differently Abled is often described in terms of lack of normal functioning of physical, mental or psychological processes. It is also defined as learning difficulties or difficulties in adjusting socially, which interfaces with a person’s normal growth and development.

A disabled child has been defined as one who is unable to ensure by himself, wholly or partially the necessities of a normal individual or social life including work as a result of deficiency whether congenital or not in his physical or mental capabilities.
