National Social Assistance Programme :

Objectives:
The Department is implementing National Social Assistance Programme as a Centrally sponsored schemes for the people falling below the poverty line.

This scheme has following components viz:
(A)National Old Age Pension Scheme:
The scheme has been renamed as Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension scheme. Under the modified scheme all persons with 65 years of age and above who are below poverty line (BPL) are eligible. The pension is provided @ Rs 325/- PM

** Chairman District Development Commissioner
** Member Secretary District Social Welfare Officer
** Member Assistant Commissioner (Dev.)
** Member Chief Medical Officer

(B) National Family Benefit Scheme:
Financial Assistance @ 10000/ – is being provided to the family in case of death of primary bread earner of the family living below poverty line.

Pension Sanctioning Authority:
** Chairman Programme Officer
** Member Secretary District Social Welfare Officer
** Member Child Development Project Officer
** Member Bock Medical Officer
** Member Tehsil Social Welfare Officer
** Member Block Development Officer.

Benefits:
IGNOAPS Pension @Rs.325/- PM. NFBS One time assitance of Rs. 10000/-

Eligibility Criteria:
IGNOAPS persons with 65 years of age and above who are below poverty line (BPL) are eligible.

NFBS Assistance is being provided to the family in case of death of primary bread earner of the family living below poverty line.

Documents Required:
** BPL ration card
** In case the applicant has not yet been issued a BPL ration card, the income certified by the concerned Chowkidar or Numberdar shall be taken as authentic for rural areas.
** In urban areas, the income certified by the concerned Tehsildar shall be expected.
** Proof of Age

How To Apply:
Applicants have to apply to the concerned TSWO against proper receipt.

Social Welfare Centers :
The main objective of the Social Welfare Centers is impart the traininmg in various trades viz: cutting tailoring, Embroidery, Knitting and Curshia Work etc to the female folk to enable them to start their Income generating units.

The Social Welfare Centers are operated under the State sponsored scheme run by the department. Under this Scheme the stipend of Rs 100/= Per Month is also given to the candidate under training.

The candidates must be between the age of 14 to 35 years and the minimum qualification of the candidate should be middle pass or above.

About Us :
The Social Welfare Department came into existence in the State of J&K in the year 1960. It plays an important role in addressing problems of weaker sections of the society, Like Old Age Persons, Women in Distress, Physically Challenged People, Mal-Nourished children Lactating and expecting women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and other Economically Weaker Sections of the Society.

In the priority of our National Development, the commitment towards welfare of under-privileged and the down trodden, backward and vulnerable sections of the society is tremendous.
