What is OWJWS Scheme?

The web portal for ‘Odisha Working Journalists Welfare Scheme’ has been rolled out to invite applications online from working journalists for enrolment under ‘Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana’, a health insurance scheme that covers the medical expenses of the journalists and their eligible family members. Under the ‘Odisha Working Journalists Welfare Scheme’, an ex-gratia of Rs. 4 Lakhs only is provided to the legal heir of the working journalist in case of his/her death, and Rs. 2 Lakhs in case of permanent incapacitation.

The eligible applicant, in such case, can apply online for financial assistance from Information & Public Relations Department. Acknowledging the hard work of Newspaper Hawkers in delivering newspapers door to door, the government has recognized them as Organized Sector Workers. The Information and Public Relations Department has issued Identity Cards to them. A newspaper hawker can apply online for registration with the Information and Public Relations Department.

How To Apply For OWJWS Scheme?

** Visit the official web portal of the Odisha Working Journalist Welfare Scheme Application. i.e. https://owjws.odisha.gov.in/
** Click on ‘Apply for Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana’ found on the bottom-left corner of the page.
** One new page appears ‘Application for gopabandhu sambadika Swasthya Bima yojana’.
** Journalist will have to fill up the ‘Applicant details’, ‘Education details’, ‘Dependent family details’ and ‘Present Work place’ with relevant document details.
** Upon successful form submission One application number is generated which a journalist can use for further reference. i.e. for application status.
** The applicant will receive an SMS in respective registered mobile number regarding successful submission of application.
** The applicant can login into the application by giving respective registered mobile number.
** After giving mobile number, the journalist will receive an OTP on the mobile number. On successful submission of OTP, the applicant will able to login into the application.
** In the page the applicant will be able to view application status.
** Copy of accreditation card for accredited journalist.
** Journalist must be working for a media house register with I&PR department, Odisha, New Delhi

Additional Simplified Procedure

To register for the Odisha Working Journalist Welfare Scheme, you can follow these steps:

1. Go to the official website of the scheme: https://owjws.odisha.gov.in/
2. Click on the “Apply for Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana” button at the bottom-left corner of the page.
3. On the new page that opens, fill in the required details, including your personal information, education details, dependent family details, and present workplace details.

4. Upload the required documents, including:
** Copy of accreditation card for accredited journalist
** Copy of appointment letter for salaried journalists
** Copy of employee identity card for salaried journalists
** Copy of editor’s recommendation letter for freelance journalists
** Copy of income certificate
** Copy of identity proof
** Copy of photograph (in .jpg format and size must be within 20KB to 50KB)
** Copy of signature (in .jpg format and size must be within 10KB to 20KB)

5. Once you have filled in all the details and uploaded the required documents, click on the “Submit” button.
6. You will receive an SMS on your registered mobile number regarding the successful submission of your application.
7. You can log in to the application using your registered mobile number and the OTP that you receive.
8. After logging in, you can view the status of your application.

Eligibility criteria:
To be eligible for the Odisha Working Journalist Welfare Scheme, you must meet the following criteria:
** You must be a working journalist in Odisha.
** You must be a member of a registered journalist union/association.
** Your income must be below a certain limit.
